Trust Payments Terminal to Wi-Fi
A Simple Step-by-Step Guide
If you’re experiencing issues with your secure retail terminal with Trust Payments due to inactive SIM cards, don’t worry, your device can connect to the internet using Wi-Fi. This guide walks you through how to get connected quickly, test your connection, and even use your phone as a backup in an emergency.
When your terminal loses connectivity, it may stop processing transactions, which can disrupt your business. In many cases, the solution is simple: switch from mobile data to a Wi-Fi connection. Trust Payments Terminals are designed to work seamlessly over Wi-Fi, ensuring your transactions remain smooth and uninterrupted.
This process works for the following POS terminals
- Castles Vega 3000C
- Castles Vega 3000M2
- Castles Vega 3000M
- Ingenico Move 5000
- Ingenico Desk 5000
All these terminals follow the same basic steps for Wi-Fi setup, so you can use this guide no matter which model you’re using.
Step-by-Step: How to Connect to Wi-Fi with Trust Payments Terminals
Follow the instructions below to connect your Trust Payments terminal to a Wi-Fi network:
- Access the Quick Menu
From the main screen of your terminal, tap the Quick Menu icon. This icon gives you access to key features and settings quickly. - Select “Network”
Within the Quick Menu, tap on the “Network” option. This takes you to your terminal’s connectivity settings. Enter Network Settings
Tap on “Settings” to view the available Wi-Fi networks nearby.Choose a Wi-Fi Network
A list of available Wi-Fi networks will appear on screen. Tap the name (SSID) of the network you want to connect to. This could be your shop’s main Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot.Enter the Password
Use the numeric keypad to input the Wi-Fi password. Take care when entering it — passwords are case-sensitive. Once done, press the green OK button to confirm.Check Connection Status
After a few seconds, the terminal will attempt to connect. If successful, you’ll see the Wi-Fi icon appear in the status bar at the top of the display.Confirm Connection to Trust Payments Server
Once connected to Wi-Fi, the terminal will automatically attempt to connect to the Trust Payments server. When this is successful, a server connection icon will also appear.
If either connection fails, you’ll see a disconnected icon, and the terminal may show a warning or alert you to the issue.
How to Test Your Connection (Handshake)
Once connected to Wi-Fi, it’s a good idea to test your terminal’s ability to communicate with Trust Payments. Here’s how:
Tap the Quick Menu icon from the main screen.
Select “Handshake” from the options available.
This test will force the terminal to print out a brief connection report. It includes server status and other technical details that can confirm whether the connection is live and healthy. If the handshake test fails, double-check your Wi-Fi password and signal strength.
No Wi-Fi? Use Mobile Tethering
If there is no Wi-Fi available on-site (e.g. during an event, power outage, or new setup), you can use your mobile phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Here’s how:
- Enable Hotspot or Tethering on your smartphone (refer to your phone’s settings).
- Set a password you can easily enter on the terminal.
- Follow the same Wi-Fi connection steps listed above, selecting your phone’s network name.
- The terminal will connect to your mobile data via Wi-Fi, allowing you to continue taking payments in emergencies.
Important: Using mobile data may incur charges depending on your phone plan. Ensure you have a stable 4G/5G signal.
Whether your SIM card has expired or you’re setting up a new terminal, switching to Wi-Fi is an easy and reliable way to keep your business running. Always keep a Wi-Fi password handy, and consider setting up a mobile hotspot on your phone just in case.
